Our story begins long before we actually met—almost like the invisible string theory had been at work from the start. Somer first heard Fernando’s name back in Fall 2016 during her first semester of college, mentioned casually by mutual friends. Little did she know, while she was away on her LDS mission, Fernando became close friends with her future college roommates—soon to be her best friends.

We were officially introduced in Fall 2018. Fernando remembers thinking Somer seemed like a fun and easygoing friend. Somer remembers a walk around Porter Park with her roommates and stumbling across a rock band playing live music—Fernando’s band. She filmed the moment on her phone, not knowing the guitarist would one day become her future husband.

Fast forward to Summer 2021, when fate stepped in again and we both happened to move to the same street. One evening at Vineyard Grove Park during an FHE activity, Fernando spotted Somer and thought, “This is someone I’d really like to get to know.”

And he did just that.

Fernando planned fun group hangouts and eventually asked Somer on their first official date—Korean BBQ followed by a ride on the Scheels Ferris wheel. From there, it just clicked. We discovered how much we love listening to music together, going on scenic drives, trying out new foodie spots, and hopping on the FrontRunner for spontaneous Salt Lake City adventures.

In a full-circle moment, Fernando proposed to Somer at Vineyard Grove Park—the place where he first saw her in Utah and knew she was someone special.

We are so excited to start this new chapter together and couldn’t imagine a better way to begin than celebrating with all our favorite people by our side!
